From the Manufacturer
The extremely convenient Yamaha YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector is low profile enough to fit neatly in front of a TV and is 3D compatible (HDMI V.1.4a). Enjoy distinct, immersive surround sound from a single speaker bar, along with exclusive Yamaha technologies such as CINEMA DSP, Music Enhancer, and Intellibeam automatic calibration.
Convenient, Flexible Placement--Low Profile and Height Adjustable
The YSP-2200 is only 3-1/8" high, so you can place it in front of most flat screen TVs without blocking the picture. The height-adjustable feet let you achieve optimum positioning. The feet can also be removed. The powerful yet slim subwoofer can be used vertically or horizontally, so you can place it inside or outside a rack. The sound of the subwoofer has been tuned to perfectly match the YSP-2200.
True Surround Sound with Digital Sound Projector Technology
With a built-in 132W digital amplifier that efficiently drives all channels, an aluminum body that dampens vibrations, precision sound tuning and optimum subwoofer matching, the YSP-2200 delivers 7.1-channel surround sound with outstanding clarity and linearity. The design is more elegant and less obtrusive than multiple speaker boxes.
The YSP-2200 applies sophisticated sound projection technology to precisely control the orientation of the sound by focusing it through multiple beams. The center channel sound is heard directly, while sounds from other channels are heard after reflecting off walls. The result is true multi-channel surround sound that sounds just like a multi-speaker system--but without the need for extra speakers.
Versatile listening Modes Including 7.1-Channel Output Capability
The YSP-2200 achieves true surround sound by directing sound beams off the walls to reach the listener from various angles. The main mode is 5 BeamPlus2 for 7-channel sources. In addition, there is a wide variety of other listening modes. You can select 3 BeamPlus2 + Stereo, 5 Beam, Stereo + 3 Beam, 3 Beam, Stereo, and My Surround (custom).
11 CINEMA DSP Programs
Yamaha’s ultra-sophisticated CINEMA DSP technology creates thrillingly realistic soundscapes in any room. You can select 11 different programs, including three Movie, three Music, and five Entertainment programs.
HD Audio Format Decoding with 1080p-Compatible HDMI V.1.4a
The YSP-2200 decodes HD Audio signals to ensure that you hear the best possible sound from Blu-ray Disc players, as well as from all other digital sources. The YSP-2200 provides 3 in/1 out HDMI connections with support for 1080p resolution. HDMI V.1.4a is the latest version of the HDMI interface, featuring 3D pass-through. Audio Return Channel lets you hear the TV sound from the YSP-2200 via a single HDMI cable, with no need for an extra optical cable. HDMI also provides the benefits of Deep Color, x.v.Color and Auto Lip-Sync.
Music Enhancer for Your Digital Music Library
When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. Yamaha's Music Enhancer Technology restores what was lost, so your music always sounds the way it should. The Music Enhancer restores the original, live sound of your music, especially deep, strong sounds like bass and drums.
IntelliBeam Automated System Calibration
This Yamaha exclusive feature ensures optimum multi-channel sound reproduction with accurate image location. By monitoring and analyzing the sound with the microphone included with the YSP-2200, IntelliBeam automatically sets the best beam angles, while optimizing the level and frequency response of each beam. This makes initial setup both extremely simple and acoustically perfect.
UniVolume
The Univolume feature, made possible by Yamaha-developed technology, maintains a consistent volume level between different channels, programs, commercials and input sources. It can be switched on and off.
yAired Technology for Wireless Connections
The YSP-2200 makes it easy to enjoy music from your iPod/iPhone via a wireless link. You also get outstanding sound quality, because yAired technology transmits uncompressed data so there is no loss of signal data, unlike systems that use Bluetooth technology to send compressed data. In addition, there is no delay time, ensuring that sound and video are always in sync. Using yAired with the YSP-2200 requires a compatible yAired adapter (sold separately) connected to the portable device.

By P. Freer
We tried several different models over the years to use in our vacation/retirement home and this is the only one that gave us an excellent surround experience while also being able to handle our music needs. The lack of wires around the house was my wife's #1 priority, and my #2 - my first priority has always been the sound quality and the ability to fill our 19' x 25' great room. You can tailor the overall sound quality through a number of settings.
Having been in the reidential and commercial audio/video industry in the 70s and early 80s in both retail sales and as a manufacturers' rep, I was well aware of the developments in surround sound and have watched it evolve. I more often dealt with recording and sound reinforcement products - the former usually involving small monitors and the latter using large scale multiple speaker arrays and so I tend to lean toward the larger box sound, but this system amazes me. I also sold a large amount of Yamaha pro equipment, including their amplifiers as well as guitars and electronic keyboards. Their products were always among the best and the most reliable.
While I agree placement is important (it is in all systems, don't let the industry hype fool you) I found it worked well in a variety of placement positions as long as you ran the auto setup and then tweaked to your liking.
Please understand that I'm an "early-senior" with a moderate amount of hearing loss from the aging process, and more importantly from a number of years in working in high sound pressure environments for extended periods of time (in the sound rooms and on stage). I no longer consider myself a critical listener (I don't listen to "the sound" anymore - I listen to the content) so what I hear may not apply to your needs, but I believe this product to be an exceptional value sound bar.

By M. Gerenser
I got this Yamaha for our bedroom, which is the perfect candidate for a soundbar: its symmetrical, with the TV perfectly centered on one wall. If you have an open concept room, a soundbar is going to be far less effective. In my case, it really does work like magic. We popped in the Italian Job and were immersed in surround sound. It didn't sound quite as good as my dedicated 5.1 system in the living room, but it was close!
Subwoofer is adequately powerful for small rooms, and produces nice bass. Again, if your room is larger or more open, the sub will really struggle to keep up. In my case, in the bedroom, the subwoofer has ample power to deliver decent-sounding explosions!
What I love about this system are the 3 HDMI ports + 3 digital audio inputs. This means I can hook up my PS3, cable box and Apple TV, and still have inputs left for audio if I want. This leaves me with just one HDMI cable going out from the soundbar to the TV, a great option for folks (like me) with older LCDs that only have a single HDMI input. This also allows the soundbar to handle all input switching for video and audio. It cleans up the cable clutter and reduces the need for the extra step of manually switching inputs.
My only wish was that the remote had the ability to turn the TV on and off - this would allow me to completely eliminate the need to keep my TV's remote control around.

By none
I just hooked up my Yamaha YSP-2200 to a Panasonic Viera 1080p, 3d TV and I love the sound it puts out. I even retired my Yamaha receiver since now I can run amplified sound right out of the Sound Projector/sound bar. It's the best if you have an ARC HDMI input on your flat screen tv since with this feature you can control the volume of the sound bar with any remote (no more juggling 3 different remotes! I haven't tried to pump up the bass so if you are looking for house shaking bass then maybe this system isn't for you. When I played music CDs I thought the YSP 2200 sounded great--crisp, clear and full. I know the system is a little pricey which made me pause before purchasing, but in the end I am totally happy that I spent the money this system. If you are fed up with all of the speaker cords and rgb cables etcetera then going fully HDMI is the way to go. My system now is minimized with 2 HDMI cables and when I finally get a blue-ray player that will add a 3rd HDMI cable. Very happy with the YSP 2200. Hope this helps.
